Do I need any prior experience or special skills to apply?
We do not require any prior leadership experience or skills! The only thing we mandate is that our members be dedicated and committed. Of course, if you do have any skills that could be useful, that is a bonus!
What is the time commitment?
Due to the nature of our work, the amount of time you may dedicate to us will vary drastically throughout the year. In-between events, it may be less, but it will definitely ramp up as major events near.
With that said, in general, be ready to commitment 2-3 hours per week. This includes our weekly lunch meetings and any supplementary virtual meetings. However, as stated above, the time commitment could be less at times, or, as major events near, it could also be greater.
Will all Committees be available on all days?
Unfortunately, not necessarily. There are numerous advantages to meeting in-person instead of meeting virtually (as we did last year). However, there are also a few disadvantages. Namely, because ACL is split into A-day and B-day, we have to choose between either splitting committees across two different ACL days - and thereby making communication and decision making within that committee slow and difficult - or only having a particular committee on either A-day or B-day (and therefore making it unavailable to the other day).
Currently, we have decided to go with a hybrid of these options; Some committees may be available on both days, while others on only one. For now, the Marketing Committee will be available on both days, while the Events Committee will only be available on A-day.
However, these day designations may also very well change throughout the year as the demand on each committee shifts, with some committees switching from both days to only one and vice versa (their members would be transferred to other committees).
Do you have volunteer time requirements?
We do not require that you spend a specific amount of time volunteering at events. However, we certainly hope that you will volunteer at the events you helped create as much as possible!
Can I use time spent with the Leadership Committee as volunteer time for another club/organization?
As far as we are concerned, that is fine by us. However, you will need to check with your club/organization as to if they will accept the volunteer time.
Do you use any acronyms?
Yes! Officially, we are the "Academies of Loudoun Mini-THON Leadership Committee". However, when necessary, we sometimes shorten it to "ACL MT LC". This is typically only for informal uses, however, and for all official uses we go by our formal name.
We also sometimes shorten the Website Development Team to "WDT".
